8 drug-peddlers arrested

Srinagar: Police have arrested eight drug peddlers in Baramulla, Kulgam and Ganderbal, and recovered contraband, psychotropic substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Sunday.

He said in Baramulla, at a checkpoint at Mirgund Pattan, police intercepted a truck (JK05K-7086) with three persons on board. During the search, 13 bottles of Codeine Phosphate syrup were recovered from their possession. Identified as Feroz Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Amin of Khambiyar Pattan; Aijaz Ahmad Wani, son of Nazir Ahmad of Palhallan; and Gulzar Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Akbar resident of Wanigam Kreeri, all three were arrested.

In Kulgam, at Mohipora Tengpora Crossing another truck (PB13X-7399) with four persons on-board was stopped and searched. Five kilograms of poppy straw-like contraband substance were recovered from it following which Madan Lal, son of Shingara Ram of Babri Gurdaspur; Mohan Singh, son of Delip Singh of Bit Kathara Gurdaspur; Manzoor Ahmad, son of Abdul Samad Mir and Mohd Afzal, son of Mohammad Subhan, both residents of Tengbal Kulgam were arrested.

In Ganderbal, at Naranag Kangan one Maroof Ahmad Jagal, son of Mohammad Yousuf Jagal of Naranag Kangan was arrested after contraband cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.
