Md Anirul Islam is a name swiftly emerging in the realm of art, gradually making his mark among the eminent artists of our country. With a foundation laid upon enriched discipline and unwavering contributions, Anirul’s journey to artistic acclaim has been nothing short of inspiring.

Hailing from Baligram, a modest village in Lalgola MurshidabadWest Bengal,Anirulafter finishing his bachelors from Aligarh Muslim Universitycompleted his Masters in Fine Arts from Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi. After completing his masters in painting his talent and dedication led himto coveted position as an artist of Painting at the esteemed National Bal Bhavan, Delhi. Adding another feather to his cap, Anirul was awarded the Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, a testament to his burgeoning talent and potential.

Anirul’s artistic competence has been celebrated on both national and state levels, with accolades pouring in from esteemed platforms like the National Award at (AIFACS) in 96th Annual All India Art Exhibition in 2023. His work has been exhibited in most renowned institutions and galleries across India including All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS), Lalit Kala Akademi, Sahitya Kala Parishad, and the Indian Habitat Centre, leaving an indelible impression on viewers nationwide.

Beyond the confines of exhibitions, Anirul’s influence extends into the realm of adjudication, he has been invited as a judge in competitions and events organized by prestigious entities like the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, National Museum of Natural History, Lok Sabha Secretariat, Ministry of Women and Child Development, and Indian Council for Child Welfare (New Delhi).

In his artistic statement, Anirul unveils the essence of his creative journey, which finds its roots in personal experiences, cultural heritage, and the vibrant milieu of West Bengal. Drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of Bengali art and culture, Anirul infuses his work with a distinctive authenticity that resonates deeply with viewers. Talking to Kashmir Images,Anirul described his artistic journey as an approach that is deeply rooted in his personal experiences, cultural heritage, and surroundings, particularly influenced by the rich art andculture of West Bengal.“By incorporating elements ofBengali art andculture into my art work, I try to create a unique and authentic expression of myidentity and perspective as an artist.” Adding that,”My paintings serve as visual narratives, each telling a distinct story inspiredby the people, memories, nature, and mythological tales. 

The Storytellingaspect of Anirul’s work makes it unique and adds layers of depth and meaning to his art. His intrinsic detail overwhelms viewersto engage with his work both on emotional and intellectual levels.His paintings serve as poignant visual narratives, each a testament to the myriad influences shaping his identity and perspective as an artist. Through storytelling, Anirulcreates a relationship that binds his work to different narratives embodied within the audience, each person viewing his artwork can relate his/ her personal experiences with the artwork. The universality of his approach makes his work accessible within the grasp of people coming from the artworld as well as beyond it. Anirul with his unique technique attracts audiences from diverse narratives and brings them together under one perspective.

Anirul’s technical expertise shines through in his adeptness at adapting painting materials to suit varied surfaces, showcasing his versatility as an artist. This mastery ensures that his artistic vision is effectively translated onto canvas or any other medium, allowing him to fully realize the stories and themes he seeks to convey. “I cautiously choose my material for each of my work, and it depends on the nature and theme of my work.Choice of material must express my overallartistic practice that reflects a profound connection to my roots, keen observation of the world around me, and a commitment to storytellingthrough the medium of painting.”
