Drug peddler held in Srinagar with contraband worth crores

Srinagar: Police in Srinagar arrested a drug-peddler and seized contraband substance worth crores of rupees, a police spokesperson informed Wednesday.

Sharing details, he said police stopped a vehicle (JK03E-0662) at a checkpoint at Zaldager Chowk yesterday. During its frisking, a packet of contraband substance — “apparently brown sugar worth crores in black market” – was recovered from the vehicle, following which the person driving it — Shafeeq Ahmad Khawaja, son of Feteh Joo Khawaja, resident of Dildar Karnah, was arrested and vehicle seized, police said, adding a case has been registered for further investigations.

Spokesperson also informed that two drug peddlers — Muzamil Ahmad Lone, son of Late Ghulam Mohammad of Wagub Sopore, and Irshad Ahmad Dar, son of Bashir Ahmad of Dnagerpora Sopore –were held in Tapper Bala in Kreeri Baramulla, and the vehicle (JK05K-4663) used by them seized after 168 capsules of SpasmoProxyvon Plus and 12 bottles of Codeine Phosphate syrup were recovered from their possession.

In Anantnag, 5.5 kgs of cannabis powder was recovered from the possession of Himayun Bashir and Adil Bashir, sons of Bashir Ahmad Ganie of K-Kalan, following which they were arrested.

At Drangbal Crossing Baramulla, 140 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from one Mohammad Hussain Lone, son of Abdul Ahad of Jalsheeri Baramulla.

At Tulran Imamsahib in Shopian, 1.3 kgs of poppy straw-like substance and 30 grams of cannabis powder were recovered from the possession of Fayaz Ahmad Malla, son of Sunaualla Malla of Wazir Chak Sangren.  He too was arrested.
