Srinagar: Police have arrested seven drug peddlers and recovered contraband, psychotropic substances from their possession in Sopore, Ganderbal and Baramulla, a police spokesman informed Sunday.

He said in Sopore, at Seelo-Behrampora bridge, a truck (JK03E-4421) with three persons onboard was intercepted. During search of the vehicle, 70 bottles of Codeine Phosphate syrup were recovered, following which the truck was seized, and Naseer Ahmad Sheikh, son of Muhammad Jamal Sheikh; Muhammad Amin Sheikh, son of Farooq Ahmad Sheikh; and Danish Manzoor Bhat, son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, all residents of Seelo Sopore, were arrested.

At a checkpoint at Mahrajpora Sopore three drug peddlers — Showkat Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Rashid Bhat of Neharpora Sopore; Firdous Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohiudin Bhat of Mazbugh Sopore; and Firdous Ahmad Dar, son of Nazir Ahmad Dar, resident of Mahrajpora Sopore, were arrested after 1700 grams of cannabis-like contraband substances was recovered from their possession.

In Ganderbal, a raid at the residential house of one Manzoor Ahmad Bhat alias Setha, son of Late Ghulam Mohammad Bhat of Batwina, yielded 10 strips of SpasmoProxyvon-Plus, which were recovered from his vehicle (JK16-0901). The vehicle was seized even as the accused himself managed to escape from the spot, police said.

In Baramulla, at Stadium Colony, 250 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance was recovered from the possession of Mubashir Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad of Najibhat Wagoora, following which he was arrested.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations, police said.
