JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha met the delegation of Other Backward Classes (OBC) Samaj at Raj Bhawan, today.

The delegation comprised of political leaders and prominent citizens expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and J&K Administration for reservations in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Panchayats in the UT.

It is for the first time OBCs will have reservations for grassroots democratic representation.

Sunil Prajapati, J&K President BJP OBC Morcha; Rash Pal Verma, National Secretary BJP OBC Morcha; Raj Kumar Tarkhan, General Secretary OBC Morcha; Sajad Kumar, General Secretary OBC Morcha from Kulgam; Retd Brig Vijay Sagar Dhiman; Ramesh Kumar, ex-Sarpanch and other members of the community were present during the interaction.

After the meeting, the Lt Governor tweeted:

“आज अन्य पिछड़े वर्ग के एक प्रतिनिधिमंडल से मुलाकात की। प्रतिनिधिमंडल ने केंद्रशासित प्रदेश में शहरी स्थानीयनिकायों और पंचायतों में आरक्षण के लिए माननीय प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी और जम्मू-कश्मीर प्रशासन को धन्यवाद दिया।

इस ऐतिहासिक निर्णय से जम्मूकश्मीर में पहली बार अन्य पिछड़े वर्ग को जमीनी स्तर पर लोकतांत्रिक प्रतिनिधित्व के लिए आरक्षण मिलेगा तथा अन्य राज्यों की तरह इस समुदाय को भी तमाम लाभ मिल सकेंगे”.
