Rs 35000 fine recovered from food business operators in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: A team from the Food Safety Department along with Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar, Yameen ul Nabi today carried out inspections of manufacturing units operating in Zakura and Hazrabal areas especially food business operators (FBOs) involved in manufacturing processing of ready-to-eat foods, bakery and spices.

During the drive, 07 FBOs were compounded on the spot under Section 69 of the FSS Act for violating various provisions of the Food Safety Act. 2006 and 02 FBOs were found operating under insanitary conditions whose challan will be submitted before the competent Court.

About 80 kgs of Minced meat which was transported in unhygienic and unsanitary conditions was destroyed in accordance with environmental laws.

Dy. Commissioner of Food Safety Kashmir, Shagoofa Jalal warned all FBOs that they should observe strict adherence to the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 while performing their food business and give due regard to the safety concerns of the foods they sell.

She also added that in case of violations made by the Food Business Operators, strict action as per the FSS Act will be initiated against the defaulters which can even lead to the closure of the facility and such type of market checking will continue in the coming days across Srinagar city and all other Districts of Kashmir Division.

All the consumers are requested that in case they have any complaint regarding the food that is being served to them, they can lodge a complaint on toll-free number 104.
