Srinagar: Police have arrested 11 drug peddlers in Baramulla, Sopore and Budgam and recovered contraband, psychotropic substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Tuesday.

He said in Baramulla, at a checkpoint established at Sultanpora, one Sajad Rasool Dar, son of Ghulam Rasool Dar of Palhallan Pattan was arrested after 53 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

At a checkpoint at Laghama-Paranpeelan in Uri, four persons — Nowkhaiz Khan Awan, son of Kalu Khan Awan; Yasir Ahmad Khan, son of Shakeel Ahmad, both residents of Paranpeelan; Abdul Waheed Ganie, son of Abdul Qayoom of Tilawari, and Sibti Hassan Halwai, son of Ibin Hassan of Kila Kiratpur Bijnor UP at present Uri, were arrested after 70 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from their possession.

In Sopore, at Hadipora Chowk, three persons — Farooq Ahmad Malla alias Hilal, son of Abdul Rahim of Hadipora Rafiabad; Firdous Ahmad Dar, son of Muhammad Sultan Dar; and Riyaz Ahmad Ganie, son of Ghulam Muhammad Ganie, both the residents of Reban, were arrested after 100 grams of cannabis-like substance, and cash of ₹4400, believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime, and three mobile phones were recovered from their possession.

At Laiser Crossing, Rafiabad, one Mehraj ud Din Mir, son of Abdul Khaliq Mir of Omar Colony Chijhama, was arrested after 50 grams of cannabis-like substance, and cash of ₹13,500 — believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime– and a mobile phone, were recovered from his possession.

In Budgam, during checking near Srinagar International Airport, police intercepted a vehicle (JK04H-8579) driven by one Javid Ahmed Dar, son of Abdul Ahad Dar of Gagoo Humhama, and recovered 70 grams of cannabis and 58 strips of Alprazolam tablets from it, following which Dar was arrested and vehicle seized.

Near Ahle Hadees Masjid in Khansahib, one Khurshid Ahmed Mir, son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir of Khansahib was arrested after 2.380 kgs of semi-grinded cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations and cases registered against them, police said
