7 drug peddlers held in Sopore & Kulgam

Srinagar: Police have arrested seven drug peddlers in Sopore and Kulgam and recovered psychotropic, contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman informed Monday.

He said at Reban, police intercepted a car (JK01AU-3674) with two persons on board. Identified as Umer Rashid Shalla, son of Abdul Rashid Shalla, and Adnan Manzoor Antoo, son of Manzoor Ahmad Antoo, residents of Sidiq Colony Sopore, both were arrested after 112 capsules of SpasmoProxyvon Plus and 11 bottles of Codeine Phosphate syrup were recovered from their possession.

Two more drug peddlers — Shahnawaz Ahmed alias Manzoor, son of Shuja Ahmed of Dangerpora Sopore, and Shabir Ahmed, son of Abdul Rashid Mir of Sahipura Kralgund Handwara – were arrested after 1536 tablets of SpasmoProxyvon Plus were recovered from their possession.

In Kulgam, at Sumo Stand Qazigund, police intercepted and later arrested two persons carrying — Ashfaq Ahmad Rather, son of Abdul Majeed Rather of Chalyar, Chenani, and Mohammad Sharif Bani, son of Mohammad Jabroo resident of Nagulta, Chenani – were arrested after eight kgs of poppy-straw was recovered from their possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations, police said.
