Director Sericulture urges youth to take benefit of self-employment schemes

GANDERBAL: The Director of Sericulture Development Department J&K, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, today visited district Ganderbal where he participated in the ongoing Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra (VBSY) at Town Hall Ganderbal.

The event served as a platform to advocate self-employment schemes, with a particular focus on urging the local youth to harness the opportunities within the sericulture sector and others.

A nationwide campaign witnessed the enthusiastic participation of civil society members and locals.

During the event, resource persons underscored the significance of various welfare schemes. An Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) van was utilized to showcase remarkable success stories of beneficiaries thriving under multiple schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), UMEED, Kisan Credit Card (KCC), Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM Kissan), Poshan Abhiyan, and others.

On the occasion various government departments had set up stalls, presenting a visual narrative of the numerous schemes and programs actively being implemented in the district.

Director Sericulture, along with officers of the district administration and locals, actively participated in the Viksit Bharat Sankalp pledge, reaffirming their commitment towards the development of the nation.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Sericulture emphasized that the main motive behind such programs is to educate the public and analyze the effectiveness of government schemes at the ground level. He urged the local youth to embrace self-employment schemes with a sense of optimism and determination for sustainable livelihoods.

Highlighting the scope under various self-employment schemes, the Director said that sericulture is emerging as a promising sector and inspired the youth to consider silk farming and related activities as viable career options.

The ‘Meri Kahani Meri Zubaani’ segment showcased impactful firsthand accounts from beneficiaries, highlighting the tangible benefits and positive changes brought about by the government’s welfare programs.

The program at the Town Hall became a hub of aspirations, as young minds absorbed the insights shared on self-employment schemes and the immense potential within agriculture and its allied sectors.

Among others, Additional District Development Commissioner, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Gulzar Ahmad; Chief Planning Officer, Irfan Giri; Assistant Commissioner of Development, Dr. Bashir Ahmad and other district officers and officials attended the event.

Later, Director Sericulture witnessed the final match of the Chinar Softball t20 tournament which was played between Rangpora and Duderhama, ultimately culminating in a nail-biting victory for the latter, securing the win by a mere one run.

The Chinar Softball T20 tournament saw the spirited participation of 32 teams.
