Dear Editor,

I write to express my deep concern about the recent events that have unfolded within and around the precincts of our democratic temple called the Parliament.

While democracy signifies a platform for diverse opinions and discussions, recent incidents, such as mimicking the honorable Speaker of the Parliament and creating videos, go beyond the boundaries of parliamentary decorum. Disagreements are an integral part of democracy, but openly flouting parliamentary norms and etiquette reflects a blatant disregard for the sanctity of our democratic process.

These actions not only breach the standards of parliamentary conduct but also cast a shadow on the opposition, revealing frustration, despondency, and disdain. Witnessing such undisciplined occurrences both inside and outside the democratic temple becomes disheartening and unnerving.

It is imperative to recognize that such endeavors may yield negative consequences. As citizens, we must not lose sight of the potential detrimental outcomes of such actions.

It is urged that our political leaders uphold the principles of democracy and parliamentary ethics. It is essential for the sustenance of a healthy and robust democratic system. Let us strive for a healthy and congenial political environment that fosters constructive debates and mutual respect.

Sincerely,

Dr.Shiben Krishnen Raina

Former Fellow, IIAS, Shimla.

Currently in Dubai.
