He, according to the JKPCC spokesperson, made these comments while addressing a largely attended Party worker’s meeting at Omoh Verinag where he (Mir) declared that the Congress Party won’t remain silent on people’s aspirations especially the protection of land, jobs and natural resources of J&K, which are the prime target of BJP Govt to disempower people for the lust of power, besides misleading people in rest of the country after abrogation of Art 370 and subsequent downgrading of J&K into two UTs’

G.A.Mir recalled the historical role played by the Congress Party under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, first Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru along with great stalwarts Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Dr B.R. Ambedkar, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad and others in the integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the Union of India and in recognizing the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the Indian Constitution while extending certain guarantees in the shape of Article 370, in view of the special circumstances and the unusual situations in which J&K acceded to India after rejecting the two-nation theory despite being the only Muslim majority State.

Mir said people of both Jammu & Kashmir have realized that they have been pushed towards darkness, economic backwardness, and peak unemployment, besides the loot of natural resources under the garb of the so-called development of J&K, the reality is that BJP’s agenda to demean and disempower people for the lust of power is known to people. We have resolved to seek a big political initiative, safeguarding land, and jobs, besides natural resources and other identities, which the Party is taking up at the national level, Mir added and said that the Party (Congress) is deeply watching the development relating to J&K and it will do its utmost to ensure protection of people rights, which are under assault ever since BJP assumed power at Centre.

Referring to the current political situation, Mir said the denial of democratic rights to people of J&K is highly condemnable and unacceptable while asserting that Congress will continue to raise its voice against BJP’s deliberate move to disempower people politically, economically and democratically, he rued.
