Srinagar: Police in Baramulla have arrested two persons involved in a marriage scam, a police spokesperson informed Thursday.
He said Police Post Mirgund received a complaint from one Ghulam Mohammad Bhat of Dessa Doda, presently residing in Srinagar, stating that he has been fraudulently cheated by one Mohammad Qasim Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat of Gund Ibrahim, Trikolbal Pattan, on the pretext of marriage and has paid an amount of about Rs 1,50,000 to him.
The victim alleged that when he sought his money back, Mohammad Qasim Bhat “resorted to intimidation and threats of dire consequences”.
A case was registered in Police Station Pattan, and during investigation police tracked down and arrested the accused Mohammad Qasim Bhat and his accomplice brother, Nisar Ahmad Bhat. Both accused persons have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody, police said.
Further investigation into the matter is going on, the spokesperson said, adding that the police encourage individuals who may have fallen victim to similar scams to come forward and report such incidents to the nearest police station.
