Drug peddler held in Shopian with 4.2 kgs of cannabis, Rs 45 lakh cash
Shopian: Police on Tuesday arrested a drug peddler and recovered 4.5 kgs of cannabis besides huge cash from his possession in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Officials said that police raided the house of Farooq Ahmad Koka in Malhoura village and recovered 4.5 kgs of cannabis, besides a cash of around Rs 45 lakhs.
Police said that the accused had concealed the contraband and cash in his cowshed and the residence.
Meanwhile, SSP Shopian Tanushree told the news agency KNO that on a specific input, police raided suspected spots and recovered around Rs 45 Lakh cash and 4.2 kg Charas from the residence of one Farooq Ahmad Koka.
She said that some cash was recovered from his cowshed and some from his house and shop. “A case has been filed in this regard, while a probe is on,” she added.
Stressing that parents and teachers need to play their role to ensure that young people don’t fall prey to drug addiction, she said that this year alone, 13 persons were booked under PIT-NDPS in Shopian, who are currently lodged in different jails of India while cases registered against drug peddlers are almost double as compared to last year.
