5 drug peddlers held
Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Anantnag, Baramulla & Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman informed Thursday.
He said on specific information, a police party intercepted and later arrested one Abdul Hameed Khar, son of Abdul Ahad Khar of Kharpora Nowpora Kulgam, after 6 kgs of poppy straw was recovered from his possession.
One Javaid Ahmad Shoda, son of Ghulam Nabi of Naina Batpora was arrested after 25 grams of brown sugar-like substance was found on him.
At Red Bridge Uroosa in Uri, one Altaf Hussain Mughal, son of Sharbat Hussain Mughal of Dardkote Uri was arrested after 46 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.
Police also raided a residential house in Rasoo Budgam and recovered 1.2 kgs of cannabis-like substance in powder form and three sticks of contraband substance wrapped in corn cob leaves from there, following which one Mohammad Rafiq Dar, son of Sonaullah Dar was arrested on the spot.
At a checkpoint at Pandit Colony Veerwan (Baramulla), Firdous Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Jabbar Sheikh of Bagna Salamabad, was arrested after 24 capsules of SpasmoProxyvon Plus and 60 tablets of Alprozolam were recovered from his possession, police said.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in all these instances for further investigation, police said.
