2 drug peddlers held

Srinagar: Police have arrested two drug peddlers in twin districts of south Kashmir’s Anantnag and Kulgam and recovered contraband, psychotropic substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Thursday.

He said at a checkpoint established at Hassanpora Crossing, police intercepted a car JK02AM-9204 driven by one Sajad Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Khaliq Bhat of Mooman Danjipora. During the search, police recovered 20 bottles of Codeine Phosphate syrup from it, following which the driver was arrested and the car seized.

In Kulgam, acting on a specific information, police raided the house of Mubashir Ahmad Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat at Nillow, and recovered 12 kgs of poppy straw, a grinder and a digital weighing machine from it. The owner of the house was arrested and shifted to the police station.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective locations and investigations have been initiated, police said.
