Dilbag Singh given warm send-off

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police gave a warm send-off to its outgoing DGP Dilbag Singh in specially organized functions at Armed Police Complex Zewan, and later on at PHQ, Srinagar.

Gillani, M.K Sinha, Vijay Kumar, Director, Fire & Emergency Services, J&K, Alok Kumar, IG BSF Ashok Yadav, IG CRPF G.K Verma, Commissioner Secretary Industries & Commerce Vikramjeet Singh, IGP (CIV/Hqrs) B.S Tuti, DIsG SSsP, COs, AIsG of PHQ, GOs, NGOs, others representing all the units of J&K participated in the Vidai Parade held at APC Zewan.

Dilbag Singh, the chief guest inspected the parade and received a salute.

Dilbag Singh while addressing the occasion thanked his family members, all officers of Police, CAPFs, Army, media fraternity and other invitees from different parts of UT for attending the occasion. He recalled his modest beginning in life and also mentioned the names of the institutes from where he received his education. 

He said he joined the India Police Service in 1987 and on his posting to Jammu and Kashmir, his colleagues wished him good luck as the situation in Kashmir had turned volatile. Recalling his probationary period in Handwara, the outgoing DGP said that he used to go for probation training on a Tonga adding that the local mosque was his praying place.

With regard to his postings from Additional SP Kupwara to DGP J&K, he said that he served in almost all the Wings of Jammu and Kashmir Police. He also mentioned his survival in two separate terror attacks during his first posting at Kupwara.

The outgoing DGP said that Jammu and Kashmir Police witnessed various challenges/situations and every time this force stood the ground and foiled those challenges with fortitude. Leading this brave force has been a great honour for him, he added.

Reflecting on his tenure as the DGP, Dilbag Singh expressed his deep gratitude for the opportunity to lead the brave force. From SPO to higher rank officers, he treated everyone like a member of his Pariwar, he added. Singh said that when he took over as DGP there were challenges and added with the efforts of Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel and other security forces peace is flourishing in Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir Police has always chosen duty first, he added.

Singh reiterated that bringing peace back was a challenge but protecting it is an even bigger challenge. He, expressed his confidence in the potential of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, affirming that this force is capable of efficiently protecting the peace, lives and property of people.

He expressed his gratitude for the support he received from the officers of J&K Police, Army, CAPFs and other sister agencies during his service. He also thanked the Government of India for its kind and generous support for Jammu and Kashmir Police. He appreciated the role of the media fraternity in strengthening peace in the UT. Singh appreciated the synergy and cooperation of J&K Police, CAPFs, Army and Intelligence in fighting the enemy.

Paying rich tribute to the fallen heroes of Jammu and Kashmir Police, the DGP said that it is our duty to stand by and take care of the families of these brave hearts.

Emphasizing for taking care of parents and family, the DGP said that family gives us strength to achieve bigger results.

The Outgoing DGP was also given a warm send-off at PHQ at a function in which I/C DGP J&K R.R Swain, Spl DG Crime J&K, A.K Choudhary, ADGsP, S. J. M. Gillani, M.K Sinha, Vijay Kumar, outgoing Chairperson PWWA Dr. Rubinder Kaur threw light on the phenomenal professional services of Dilbag Singh. DIsG of different wings, AIsG, and staff of PHQ participated in the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Dilbag Singh appreciated the officers and staff of PHQ for complying with all the orders and implementing them in letter and spirit. He said that whatever he desired to be done for the force was done by the PHQ in a desired manner. He appreciated the dedicated efforts of the PHQ staff to ensure time-bound disposal of assigned works.

I/C DGP J&K R.R Swain said on the occasion that it is a poignant moment for Smt & Shri Dilbag Singh as much as personally for him and other colleagues. He said that Dilbag Singh has always stood out in taking all people, colleagues, subordinates & personnel as one unit.

In his address, S. J. M. Gillani said that speaking about the professional ability of an outgoing officer is nearly impossible and added that he would personally remember Dilbag Singh for the amount of love and affection he has given to J&K Police Pariwar.

ADGP Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar said that Dilbag Singh has been always at the forefront of the fight against terrorism. He has always given priority to the safety & security of the people besides our own personnel. He has always been at the back of his subordinate officers with full support. He lauded his leadership and bold decisions. He narrated some anecdotes of his tenure as well. On behalf of Kashmir Police, he wished Singh & his family a happy life ahead.
