J&K Water Sports Association honors medal winners; sends off national team to Goa

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Water Sports Association came together today to celebrate and honour the exceptional achievements of its athletes at SKICC, who have consistently raised the bar in national competitions.

The occasion was made even more special as the J&K National Water Sports team, ready to make their mark at the upcoming National Games in Goa, was given a spirited send-off.

At the felicitation ceremony, the spotlight shone on accomplished athletes Maysir, Aqib, Idrees, and Showkat, individuals who have made their mark in numerous National Championships and added an array of medals to the Union Territory’s treasure. Their most recent feat was securing a coveted Bronze medal at the National Championship held in Uttarakhand.

After the heartfelt and well-deserved felicitation, the J&K National Water Sports team embarked on their journey to the highly anticipated National Games in Goa, buoyed by the enthusiastic support of the Water Sports Association. The send-off event was graced by the presence of distinguished figures from the Union Territory, all of whom extended their unwavering support to the athletes and offered their prayers for a triumphant performance in the upcoming competition.

Dr. Burhan Bazaz, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Association of Rowing and Canoeing (JKARS), expressed immense pride in the accomplishments of the young water sports athletes, hailing them as true gems polished to brilliance. He attributed this success to the unwavering dedication of both the athletes and their coaches, particularly commending the pivotal role of Ms. Bilquis Mir, the Director of Water Sports for J&K, who has played a key role in transforming ordinary talents into exceptional athletes. Dr. Bazaz emphasized the Association’s commitment to unearthing and nurturing hidden talents within the Union Territory and expressed gratitude to the local administration for their steadfast support to the sports community. He also held a positive outlook for J&K athletes, predicting their ascent to the highest competitive levels on the national stage.

Mr. Shafqat Watali, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Water Sports and Kayaking Canoe Association (JKWSKCA), radiated immense satisfaction with the performance of J&K’s water sports champions. He attributed their success not only to the athletes but also to the dedication of the association’s office bearers and the unwavering guidance and motivation provided by Ms. Bilquis Mir, the Director of Water Sports for J&K. Mr. Watali assured the budding water sports champions of continued support from the association and wished them the best of luck as they embark on their journey to the upcoming National Games in Goa.

The felicitation ceremony and the spirited send-off not only celebrated the athletes’ achievements but also underscored the collective resolve of the J&K Water Sports Association and its leaders to ensure the continued success of water sports in the region. The support and dedication of all stakeholders promise a bright future for J&K’s budding talents in water sports.
