Srinagar:  Police on Monday arrested two persons and registered a case of attempted murder against them for allegedly attacking and critically injuring a youth in Jawahar Nagar locality in uptown here on Saturday.

Identified as Sahil Ahmad Dar of Solina area of the city, a youth was critically injured after being stabbed by unknown persons near DAV School at Jawahar Nagar locality late Saturday evening.

Police had launched a manhunt to nab the accused, who were on the run after attacking the victim, presently undergoing treatment at Sri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital.

The accused duo, police said was charged with IPC section307 (attempt to murder) and is presently lodged at Police Station Rajbagh.

The accused have been identified as Umer Fayaz Sheikh, son of Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh of Ikhrajpora, and Imran Mushtaq Wani, son of Mushtaq Wani, of Jawahar Nagar.

The accused, a police official said, were arrested in less than 72 hours after committing the crime, while the weapon of offence was also recovered on their instance.

A formal case (FIR no 45 of 2023) was registered the same day at the concerned police station in this regard and investigation was taken up, he said.

The incident took place barely a month-and-half after a 15-year-old boy — Burhan Nisar, son of Nisar Ahmad — was stabbed to death following a scuffle between the deceased and his neighbor at Kohnakhan, Dalgate area of Srinagar on September 02.
