Srinagar: In a significant step toward enhancing mobile security and aiding users in verifying the authenticity of their devices, the Sanchar Saathi portal, which is designed to facilitate blocking, unblocking, and traceability of lost or stolen mobile devices, was officially unveiled to the nation by the esteemed Union Minister of Communications, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on May 17, 2023.

The portal includes a Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system, implemented by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), which primarily addresses security concerns, and theft prevention, and tackles issues related to reprogramming mobile handsets.

One of the most valuable features of the Sanchar Saathi portal is its IMEI verification function, known as “Know Your Mobile” (KYM). KYM is a service created to provide the general public and mobile phone users with essential information about the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) of their devices. This service can be a game-changer for individuals looking to purchase new or second-hand mobile phones, ensuring they make informed decisions.

Users can easily access KYM/IMEI verification through the following options:

SMS to 14422 from Your Mobile Phone:

Users can simply send an SMS with the format “KYM <IMEI No.>” to 14422, which will trigger an instant response.

In response, users receive comprehensive details about the IMEI, including the Brand Name, Model Name, Manufacturer, Device Type, and the status of the IMEI, whether it’s Valid, Invalid, or Blocked, among other crucial information.Through the Web Portal or Mobile App:

For a more user-friendly experience, individuals can visit the official Sanchar Saathi portal at (https://www.sancharsaathi.gov.in) or access the dedicated CEIR module. Alternatively, they can opt for the convenient KYM mobile app.

After entering the IMEI number, users will receive an informative response, featuring details about the Brand Name, Model Name, Manufacturer, Device Type, and the status of the IMEI.

This initiative marks a major leap forward in ensuring mobile device security and authenticity. With the Sanchar Saathi portal’s KYM function, consumers can now make more informed decisions when purchasing mobile devices, enhancing their overall mobile experience and security.
