Non local drowns in river jhelum, body retrieved

Sopore: The body of a non-local resident was retrieved from the River Jhelum in north Kashmir’s Sopore on Monday morning, officials said.

An official said that after a 12-hour-long rescue operation, the authorities managed to retrieve the body of Surendar Prasad, resident of Babhanauli Kushinagar of Uttar Pradesh from the river.

On Sunday evening, Surendra had accidentally drowned in Jhelum at Bohripora area of Sopore. Soon after the incident, the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) and police launched the rescue operation.

Today morning rescuers finally fished out the body from the river, which was subsequently taken to a hospital for necessary medico-legal formalities.
