Anna Boghiguian, an Egyptian-Canadian artist of Armenian descent, has recently been awarded the prestigious Wolfgang Hahn Prize of the Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst at Museum Ludwig in Cologne. This recognition solidifies her position as a highly topical artist, whose work has gained international acclaim over the past decade.

Born in Cairo, Egypt in 1946, Anna Boghiguian’s artistic journey began with her studies in political and social science at the American University of Cairo. She later pursued a BFA in fine arts and music at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. This diverse educational background laid the foundation for her multidisciplinary approach to art, blending various mediums and themes.

Boghiguian’s unique artistic vision and contribution to the art world caught the attention of guest juror Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, who included her work in dOCUMTNA (13) and the 14th Istanbul Biennial. Christov-Bakargiev praised Boghiguian’s poetry, uniqueness, directness, and expressivity, which align perfectly with the Museum Ludwig’s collection and its strong expressionist positions.

Boghiguian’s art is characterized by its diverse range of mediums, including painting, installation, collage, and books.
