Srinagar, September 10: Police have frozen property and other assets worth lakhs of two notorious drug smugglers in Bandipora.

Police in Bandipora have frozen property worth 56 lakh & 60 thousand rupees belonging to two notorious drug smugglers namely Khursheed Ahmad Waza son of GH Ahmad Waza & his wife (name withheld) resident of Bandipora.

The frozen property included land measuring 1 Kanal & 1.5 Marlas, 01 Mahindra Scorpio bearing registration No. JKO1T-6266 and 01Tata Minibus bearing registration No. JK05-7707. The said property was frozen under section 68F(2) of the NDPS Act by the Competent Authority and administrator SAFEM (New Delhi).

All these assets were illegally acquired through the sale of narcotic drugs. The duo are presently booked under PIT NDPS and lodged at KotBalwal Jammu and Central Jail  Srinagar respectively.

Moreover, Bank savings and other financial assets to the tune of Rs18 lakh and 36 thousand, six hundred eleven rupees were already frozen belonging to said accused lady & her family.

Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam & Pulwama and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Kulgam, a police party headed by SHO Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established near Khatana Petrol Pump Qazigund intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee but was apprehended tactfully. During the search, 3Kgs of Ganja like contraband substance concealed in a Nylon bag was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Rameez Raja son of Reyaz Ahmad Sheikh resident of Hiller Shahbad, Anantnag.

In Pulwama, a police party led by SHO Police Station Pulwama during naka checking at Urcherso Pulwama intercepted a vehicle bearing registration No. JK13D-8809 was driven by one person identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Sheikh son of Bashir Ahmad resident of Norpora Tral. During the search, a huge quantity of Poppy Straw was recovered from his possession.

Both the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, police have arrested 2 drug peddlers in Baramulla and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A police party of Police Station Sheeri headed by SHO PS Sheeri under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Gantamulla Crossing intercepted two persons identified as Umer Farooq Najar son of Farooq Ahmad & Waqar Hussain son of Arshad Ahmad Beigh both residents of Kalayban During the search, 40 grams of Charas was recovered from their possession. They were arrested and shifted to the police station where they remain in custody. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Sheeri and an investigation has been initiated.
