Chinar Bagh Park safe haven for illegal activities, seal it: Residents appeal authorities
FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

SRINAGAR, Sep 07: Residents of Chinar Bagh Dalgate and its adjoining areas on Thursday appealed to the authorities to immediately close Chinar Bagh Park in order to prevent future tragedies similar to the one that saw a youngster stabbed to death by his friend on Saturday last.

The aggrieved residents claimed that the Park, situated in the Dalgate area of the city has become a safe haven for drug abusers, gamblers and boozers and that young couples engaging in immoral behavior was not an exception.

It may be in place to mention that a teenager aged around 16 was stabbed to death by his friend and neighbour in Chinar Bagh Park on Saturday last, following an altercation between the deceased teenager and the accused over a trivial issue.

Burhan Nisar, a class 10 student, according to his family had a heated argument with the accused juvenile over the phone, a day before being stabbed.

“This park has turned into a sanctuary for drug addicts, boozers and gamblers while young couples engaging in shameful acts have become a routine affair. A young boy was stabbed to death in this park a few days ago and in order to prevent such tragedies, we appeal to the authorities to seal the park once for and all,” Manzoor Ahmad a Chinar Bagh resident told ‘Kashmir Images’, adding female folk have been reluctant to leave their houses out of fear of any adverse occurrence.

Manzoor said that a pall of gloom has descended on the entire area ever since a teenager was brutally killed by his friend. He said the government should seriously consider their demand given the increasing instances of stabbings in Srinagar.

“We the residents of Chinar Bagh and its adjoining areas appeal to the administration to consider our demand and seal Chinar Bagh Park immediately so that the youth of the area are prevented from falling prey to drug abuse and other illegal activities,” Sanaullah, an elderly resident said.
