Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference has expressed concern over the adverse audit report on required standards of security in Srinagar with regards to the allocation of NEET-SS Test Centers.

In a joint statement, Party Zone Presidents Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri, Ali Muhammad Dar, and Javed Dar have asked the government to clear this confusion. “The government claims that a secure environment has been created, especially in Kashmir. If their claims are true then why is there a negative report by a responsible government agency about a feasible environment for conducting examinations here?”

“For the examination to be held on 9th and 10th September 2023, NBEMS has identified examination centers in 36 cities across the country. Srinagar City doesn’t figure in the list. The audit of available test centers in the city of Srinagar has revealed that the required standards of security are not met at the centers available to hold the examination as of date. Accordingly, Srinagar has not been considered as a test city for conduct of the said examination,” they said.

Asking LG Manoj Sinha to intervene at the earliest so that the aspirants don’t suffer, the trio said, “NEET aspirants will have to bear the financial strain of flight tickets, and hotel accommodations besides uncertainty due to the frequent closures on the highway. A maximum number of students, who have been allotted centers outside Kashmir, come from poorer backgrounds, so it becomes difficult for them to appear in the examination. The decision is a gross injustice to them. If UPSC exams can be held in Kashmir, why not NEET?”
