National Workshop on ‘Capacity Building for Managers in Higher Education’ held at Sgr

SRINAGAR: The two-day National Workshop on ‘Capacity Building for Managers in Higher Education’ organized by the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of J&K in collaboration with Govt. College of Education (IASE) Srinagar commenced today here.

Dr. Darkshan Andrabi, Chairperson J&K Waqf Board was the chief guest on the occasion. She deliberated upon women as administrators and emphasized that both men and women are equal, and if given proper direction women can prove quite substantial in various leadership roles.

Prof (Dr.) Neelofar Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir talked about Capacity Building for Managers towards sustainable inclusive and equitable growth.

She highlighted the implementation of NEP 2020 with particular reference to women’s development. She also discussed the role of women in different capacities for the holistic development of women, focus was to bring change within the system by developing sensitivity, awareness, and motivation as well as management skills to women academicians and administrators.

Prof (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai, Director of the College’s Department of Higher Education discussed “Gender Equality: Reality Check on SDG-5”. She deliberated upon various issues of women like violence against women, the Murder of Shraddha Walker, the Perils of Patriarchy, and the “Me Too” movement, etc.

She also discussed 16 days of activism against gender-based violence campaigns. She concluded her address with the quote “Don’t hope for change make the change you hope for”.

Prof (Dr.) Pam Rajput, Professor Emeritus and Former Director of the Women’s Studies Centre, at Punjab University, highlighted the objectives of the capacity-building workshop. Also, she deliberated upon the progressive growth of women in India.

Earlier, the Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz in her welcome address highlighted the importance of such workshops in a present scenario wherein women in recent years have gained considerable attention yet significantly lagging in attaining higher positions in their respective fields.

She also highlighted that such workshops will facilitate women in Higher Education in order to participate in policy and decision-making while ensuring Gender Sensitizing in Governance and Administration of the colleges and create awareness and opportunities to contribute towards shared participation between men and women so that both work together on equal footing.
