This milestone event marks a significant stride towards recognizing and promoting sustainable agricultural practices in the region.

Addressing the business community on the occasion, Vikramjit Singh emphasized the need to embrace change by pursuing organic certification for their products. He further highlighted the potential of expanding the organic umbrella to include products such as cherries, garlic, apples, and more.

“Embracing the change towards organic certification is not only a strategic move for businesses but also a responsible choice towards promoting a sustainable future,” the Commissioner Secretary said. “We encourage entrepreneurs and producers to take advantage of this opportunity and register their products for organic certification. This not only adds value to their offerings but also contributes to the overall well-being of consumers and the environment,” he added.

The Commissioner Secretary urged businesses to explore the organic potential of various products that are yet to come under the organic ambit. He specifically mentioned cherries, garlic, apples, and several other items that possess qualities that could be enhanced through organic cultivation practices. He added that bringing these products into the organic fold would not only cater to niche markets but also align with the growing demand for healthier alternatives.

Managing Director JKTPO, while speaking on the occasion shared the illuminating vision of JKTPO, dedicated to providing comprehensive assistance to saffron farmers in obtaining organic certifications. He added that these certifications not only validate the farmers’ commitment to eco-friendly practices but also serve as a gateway to expanded markets and increased consumer trust.

He urged saffron farmers to take full advantage of various initiatives and encouraged them to explore opportunities like exhibitions and Buyer-Seller Meetings (BSMs) to showcase their premium produce, connect with potential buyers, and forge beneficial partnerships. Such platforms, he emphasized, serve as pathways to unlock a world of possibilities and establish a strong foothold in the competitive market landscape.

Speaking on the occasion, Director JKEDI, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat emphasized the institute’s unwavering support towards the growth and advancement of saffron cultivation in the region.

The distribution ceremony, executed under the aegis of the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP), resonates deeply with the ethos of the “Meri MaatiMeraDesh” initiative, which underscores the vital role of soil conservation, sustainable farming, and honoring the valor of our Bravehearts. The event not only acknowledges the tireless efforts of the saffron cultivators but also solidifies their position as guardians of the land.

The event witnessed the active participation of representatives from Invest India, highlighting the collaborative efforts between various stakeholders in championing sustainable agriculture and boosting economic growth. This partnership exemplifies the joint commitment to fostering a robust saffron industry that contributes to both local prosperity and national progress.

The event also witnessed an inspiring turnout of saffron growers, who took center stage as the true heroes of this remarkable achievement. Their participation in the “Meri MaatiMeraDesh” initiative showcases their commitment to the environment, the region’s agricultural heritage, and their determination to uphold the values of sustainable farming.
