Srinagar: The Srinagar District Congress Committee today staged a protest against the “unprecedented price hike” and blamed the BJP Govt for “failing people on all fronts and punishing them under the garb of unprecedented price hike, joblessness, smart meters, and many other anti-people measures”.

According to a press release, Congress workers and leaders of Srinagar District assembled at the Party office to join the protest against the price hike and started marching towards Maulana Azad Road, but the heavy contingent of police foiled the march and closed the main gate of the party Office. “The party leaders and workers were pushed back and were not allowed to protest on the road to register their protest.”

“The party workers raised slogans against unprecedented price hikes on essentials, especially vegetable, LPG, petrol, and diesel products, and smart meters. They also raised slogans against joblessness and economic backwardness due to the failures of the BJP Govt at the Centre,” reads the press release.

“Congress Leaders Mohd Anwar Bhat, Abdul Gani Khan, Shameem Iqbal, Irfan Naqib, Mir Ruvais, Imtiyaz Khan, Shameema Iqbal, Waseem Ahmad Shalla, Asif Beigh, Shameem Khan, Firdous Wani, Zulfkar Qureshi, Javed Ahmad, Saira, Rahila, Mahila and youth Congress activists and prominent Party workers participated in the protest and hit out at the BJP Govt for making false claims on every count. They also blamed the BJP for betraying people after coming into power while terming the unprecedented price hike a punishment to people,” it reads.

“They declared that Congress Party shall continue to hold protest demonstrations against the failures and wrong policies of the BJP to make them accountable and answerable to the people,” it added.
