Srinagar: Police in Baramulla have booked five “notorious” drug smugglers under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority, police spokesman informed Friday.

He identified the accused as Gulzar Ahmad Ganai of Chijhama Rafiabad, Ghulam Mohi-u-din Dar of Ladoora Rafiabad, Waheed Sultan Ganai alias Raj Don of Shirpora Pattan, Ajaz Ahmad Gojri alias Ajaz Mughal of Malpora Pattan and Atiqullah Lone of Tujjar Sharif Sopore.

The booked drug smugglers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jail Jammu, police said.

Meanwhile, police also said it has arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from them.

One Mudasir Ahmad Wani, son of Manzoor Ahmad Wani of Raipora Palhallan, was arrested along with 145 grams of cannabis, and Waseem Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Majeed Sheikh of Heewan, had 56 capsules of Spasmo-Proxyvon on him when he was arrested, police said, adding that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations against them.
