Growing up in Sukapuram, near Ponnani, Namboothiri was exposed to the captivating sculptures at a nearby temple. These early encounters ignited a deep passion within him, and he felt a strong urge to draw and mold sculptures. Encouraged by his innate talent, he pursued his education in art at the Government School of Fine Arts in Chennai. Under the guidance of esteemed artists like K C S Panicker, Roy Chowdhury, and S Dhanapal, Namboothiri honed his skills and developed a unique artistic style.

Namboothiri’s artistic prowess extended beyond traditional mediums. He became a prolific literary illustrator, capturing the essence of Malayalam literature through his exquisite drawings. His line sketches, known as rekhachithrangal, brought to life the characters and stories penned by renowned Malayalam writers such as ThakazhiSivasankara Pillai, Kesavadev, M T Vasudevan Nair, Uroob, S K Pottekkatt, and VKN.
