6 drug peddlers arrested, contraband seized

Srinagar: Police have arrested six drug peddlers in Anantnag and Baramulla districts and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman informed Wednesday.

He said in Anantnag, police intercepted a truck (JK18A-5471) with two persons on board at Mandipora crossing and recovered 320 kgs of poppy straw-like substance from it. Balvinder Kumar, son of Santok Ram, resident of Pakadeem Jalandhar Punjab, and Boshan Das, son of Sangra Ram, resident of Ward No 2 Mohalla Chodyan Jalandhar Punjab, were arrested and vehicle seized.

At Mehmood Abad, Dooru crossing two persons — Malik Anzar, son of Ghulam Nabi Malik of Nathipora Dooru, and Nakeeb Yousuf Thakroo, son of Mohammad Yousuf of Gori Bijbehara — riding a motorcycle (JK03K-4240) were arrested after 4 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession.

In Baramulla, at a checkpoint at Drang Crossing Tangmarg, 70 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from the possession of Ishfaq Ahmad Khan, son of Abdul Rashid Khan of Harashnag, and Lateef Ahmad Khan, son of Ghulam Ahmad Khan of Khamindarpora. They have been arrested.

Cases have been registered at respective police stations and investigations initiated in all these instances, police said.
