4 drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir & Jammu each

Srinagar: Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Baramulla and Budgam, while four more were arrested from three districts of Jammu region, police spokesman informed Monday.

He said in Baramulla, one Manzoor Ahmad Yatoo, son of Mohammad Sultan Yatoo of Heewan was arrested at Gantmulla Balla, after his personal search yielded 26 grams of cannabis-like substance and 56 SpasmoProxyvon capsules.

Farooq Ahmad Rather, son of Ghulam Nabi Rather of Wagoora was arrested at Kachwa Chandoosa alongwith 145 grams of cannabis-like substance.

In Budgam, at Drigam Shabir Ahmad Chopan alias Shabir Dembali, son of Ghulam Ahmad Chopan of Dembal Chadoora, and Irshad Ahmad Rather, son of Mohammad Ayoub Rather of Dadompora Chadoora, were arrested after 490 grams of cannabis-like substance were recovered from their possession. The vehicle (JK01F-6877) they were travelling in was also seized, spokesman said.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated, police said.

In Jammu region, Talib Hussain alias “Taalu” and Rajeev Gupta were arrested from Peer Baba and Chak Drab Khan in Kathua district, respectively, police spokesman said.

He said 9.24 grams of heroin was seized from Taalu while 5.87 grams of heroin was recovered from Gupta.

Another peddler Farman Ali of Vijaypur was arrested from Samba town along with heroin worth Rs 25,000.

“Farman is a notorious heroin supplier who used to operate in Samba and was frequently changing his identity, hideouts and modus-operandi. He was mostly used to supply heroin to other peddlers and individual addicts in the open fields to escape in the event of a police raid,” spokesman said.

Another drug peddler was arrested at Nangal road in Katra township of Reasi district, the spokesman said, adding that 300 grams of Ganja was recovered from his possession.

All four drug peddlers were booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he said.
