Twin events keep Gindun Sports Complex Srinagar busy

SRINAGAR: Amid the downpour the events under Golden Age and My Youth My Pride kept Gindun sports complex Rajbagh Srinagar busy.

The day began with a special activity for senior citizens and other athletes intending to improve cognitive function, promote mental health, and reduce the risk of lifestyle diseases besides providing space for socialization.

The senior citizens from adjoining areas of Rajbagh, Sanatnagar, and Kursoo actively participated in the athletic and tug-of-war events.

Many prominent citizens on the occasion pledged to combat the drug abuse and vowed for an all-out support to the Sports Council initiatives especially Golden Age and Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign.

Meanwhile, the district Srinagar Squash championship organized by the District Srinagar Squash Rackets Association in collaboration with J&K Squash Rackets Association under the My Youth My Pride initiative of J&K Sports Council concluded here today at Squash Complex, Gindun Stadium, Rajbagh Srinagar.

Over 275 players from different registered clubs, colleges, and schools of district Srinagar participated in U-13 boys and girls, U-15 boys and girls, U-17 boys and girls, U-19 boys and girls, senior men, and women & men’s Over-35 categories.

The senior officer Muzaffar Hussain Wani presided over the concluding function as the chief guest while Kabra Altaf, member of J&K Sports Council, Colonial Ravi Kumar Kulkarni, and Hilal Ahmad Deputy Manager Gindun Sports Complex presided concluding function as guest of honor.

Among others present on the occasion also included office bearers and members of the association.

While speaking on the occasion, the chief guest applauded the organizers on the successful conduct of the championship in a professional manner, hoping that club-level tournaments shall become a regular feature taking the sport to great heights.

Emphasizing that more tournaments should be organized to uplift squash in the union territory, Wani assured every possible support for the promotion and development of the game.

The member Sports Council also advocated for the participation of more and more girls in sports.

In the men’s above 35 events Adil Rafiq, Amir Maqdoomi, and Shahid Khan bagged the first three positions. In senior men and women categories Gul Yazdan, Suhail Amin, and Mugais while Rida Tariq, Aiman, and Sadiya bagged the first three places. In the U-21 men’s category Zubair Manzoor, Huzaif Farooq, and Basit Bashir secured the first three places while in junior girls U-19 Faadiya Saqib, Aazia Vakil, and Aayat Tariq bagged the first three places. In the junior boys U-19 Saqib Wani, Mehfooz and Aayan Naqeeb secured the first three places while in junior girls U-17 Zubana Jan, Muizza Muayqeeb, and Rifat Zahoor clinched the first three positions. In the junior boys U-17 Mayank Kulkarni, Azhar Muneer, and Saman Rashid bagged the first three places while in sub-junior girls U-15 Harshim Hafiz, Noorain Fatima, and Mehrehma Sajad bagged first three places.

The competitions in the other categories were in progress when the report was filed.

The championship was sponsored by J&K Sports Council.
