Baramulla: Umar Azhar Kakroo of Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), who had contested as Congress candidate for Municipal Council Baramulla, was re-elected as the president of Municipal Council Baramulla on Friday after he defeated Touseef Raina by one vote.

Pertinently, the Municipal Council Baramulla has become sort of a “council of no-confidence motions”, as it was through the fourth non-confidence motion recently which led to unseating of Touseef Raina.

Kakroo, a former president of Youth Congress Baramulla, had along with eight councilors joined DPAP after it came into being. Today he got 9 votes out of 19 while Touseef Raina got 8 votes. A councilor remained absent while another vote was rejected.

Meanwhile, DPAP chief Ghulam Nabi Azad tweeted: “Congratulations to Umar Kakroo sahib on being elected as Chairman, Municipal Council Baramulla! A monumental victory for DPAP in Kashmir. Kudos to Kakroo sahib, Distt President Shoaib Lone sahib, and all DPAP members for their dedicated efforts in securing this prestigious position. I’m confident that the team will work diligently to fulfill their promises and serve the people!”
