Ladhoo, an extensive village in Pampore is nestled on the outskirts of Wasturwan andis a treasure that unveils its magic just 18 km away from the bustling city of Srinagar. Upon entering, you are embraced by the serene atmosphere. Surrounded by the breathtaking natural wonders of the region, it serves as a haven of peace and tranquillity.

Known for its saffron fields and surrounded by breathtaking beauty, Ladhoo welcomes you with open arms. As the scorching summer sun blazes overhead, the village’s shimmering pond becomes a playground of joy for local boys and visitors alike.

Ladhoo charms visitors with its idyllic setting and abundant blessings. This enchanting village paints a picture of communal harmony, cultural richness, and natural splendour, beckoning you to embark on a journey of blissful discovery.

Basking in the glory of nature’s canvas, it finds falls in the District Pulwama. Standing tall among its neighbouring villages viz Shar Shali, Letpora, Khrew, Androosa, Gundbal, Dusso and Letpora,Ladhoo shines bright as a beacon of prosperity and abundance.

Unveiling the Treasures of Ladhoo:

Ladhoo’s allure stems from its multifaceted offerings that weave together the essence of its culture and traditions. It is renowned for its Diver Stone supply, essential for the construction industry, making it a vital player in the region’s economic fabric. But that’s not all; Ladhoo boasts a rich agricultural bounty, from succulent apples to precious saffron, the crown jewel of spices and a rarity in the world.

Uncovering the tapestry of history.

According to the historical account in “Guldasta Kashmir” by Harpogal Koul, Lodhoo Pandit, a minister during the years 2409-72 KE, founded the village and constructed a remarkable Temple. This ancient Shiva Temple, that defines time itself, a true gem in the heart of Ladhoo, stands proudly in the middle of a pond fed by a natural spring. Its unique architecture dates back to the 8th century A.D. With its simple yet captivating design, the temple features square exteriors, circular interiors, and minimal adornments. The entrance, crowned with a horseshoe-shaped arch and a triangular pediment, adds a touch of grandeur. The circular sanctum boasts a domical roof built with Kanjur stone, creating a divine ambience. While the temple’s name remains a mystery, it is affectionately referred to as “The Ancient Temple of Ladhoo.”

Hold your horses! there’s more to Ladhoo than just its ancient temple. As the mercury rises and summer takes hold, the village comes alive with the joyful sounds of boys beating the heat in the village pond. This picturesque oasis, nestled within the lush landscape, serves as their refreshing sanctuary. Laughter echoes across the water as they splash and play, finding solace from the scorching sun. The pond, Sanz Haer Nag, fed by a natural spring, designed with steps on one of its parallel sides, offers a haven for locals and visitors to sit along the banks and relish the enchanting view. The highlight of this idyllic scene is the mesmerising sight of boys enjoying themselves and feeding the fish that populate the pond. It’s a symphony of carefree moments and pure bliss.

Just 750 metres away from the pond, the village unfolds its captivating beauty with sprawling paddy fields and saffron fields. In the evening, the scenic roads become a favourite spot for strolls, as locals and farmers gather the lush greens and grass for their cattle.

Spirituality and Saints:

Ladhoo’s spiritual aura is further heightened by the presence of revered saints and Sufis who sought enlightenment within its sacred lands. The legendary Sufi saint, Alamdare Kashmir, known as Sheikh-ul-Aalam (RA) or Nund Rishi, spent twelve years of His life in seclusion within Ladhoo, leaving an indelible mark on the village’s spiritual landscape. The village has also been blessed by the footsteps of other revered saints like Mir Syed Ali Hamadani (RA), Baba Raqamud din, and Jeevan Sahib, each choosing a different abode within Ladhoo to seek divine grace.
