Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in south Kashmir’s Kulgam and Shopian districts and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials informed Wednesday.
They said at Laram Ganjipora (Kulgam), police intercepted a truck (PB04N-9566) driven by Socha Singh, son of Joginder Singh of Hair Gurdaspora, Punjab. During search, 20 kgs of poppy straw were recovered from his possession, following which the trucker was arrested and the vehicle seized.
One Bashir Ahmad Ganie, son of Abdul Karim Ganie, resident of Avil was arrested after 11 kgs of poppy straw were recovered from his possession, police said.
In Shopian, police raided the house of Ramiz Ahmad Dar, son of Late Ghulam Nabi Dar of Doompora Keegam, and recovered 18 kgs of poppy straw from the said house. Dar has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police said.
