Srinagar: Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Ganderbal and Baramulla and recovered contraband, psychotropic substances from their possession, officials informed Wednesday.

They said in Baramulla, a police arrested a drug-smuggler — Ghulam Mohiuddin Sheikh, son of Sakhi Mohammad, resident of Chandoosa at Salamdedar Babareshi. During checking, 14 grams of heroin-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession.

At a checkpoint at Juhama Crossing, police arrested two wanted drug smugglers — Showkat Ahmad Lone, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin, resident of Zehanpora Boniyar, and Nazir Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Maqbool Dar of Ladoora. During the search, 215 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance was recovered from their possession.

In Ganderbal, at a checkpoint established at Dudkant Serch, police intercepted a vehicle (DL10CF-5260) with two persons onboard. During search, two bottles of Codeine Phosphate and 75 tablets of colonazepam (Petril) were recovered from the vehicle, following which driver Arshid Shafi Bhat, son of Mohammad Shafi Bhat of Watlar Ganderbal was arrested on the spot, while another person, identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat of Bobsipora, fled from the spot and efforts are on to nab him, police said, adding that the vehicle has also been seized.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation has been initiated, police said.
