GANDERBAL: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) today conducted a Table Top Exercise with all stakeholders involved in the management of the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) at the Conference Hall of Mini Secretariat. Ganderbal.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir along with Brig. B.S Thakur from NDMA.

The NDMA conducted such Table Top and Mock Exercises prior to Yatra in its efforts to improve preparedness and response mechanisms for various disasters.

At the outset, the DC briefed the participants about the objectives and scope of Table Top and the mock exercise. He stressed for good planning, better coordination, and better response among various participating agencies.

Brig. B.S Thakur highlighted the challenges during Yatra and how to manage major incidents.

During the meeting, officials from SDMA presented an overview of the Disaster Plan and preparedness for SANJY-2023.

Various departments including State Disaster Response Force, IMD, BRO, Jal Shakti, KPDCL, I&FC, Health, communication, and connectivity besides various security agencies also presented a detailed overview of disaster plans.

The meeting was informed that mock exercises shall be conducted at the Baltal base camp on June 24 to assess the preparedness and response mechanism of all the stakeholders involved in the management of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.

The meeting highlighted the role and responsibilities of the concerned stakeholders. The officials were sensitized on how to plan for efficient and effective disaster preparedness besides how to focus on managing emergencies and how to handle the situation during exigencies.

Officers were urged to identify gaps and prepare objective tasks, challenges, resources, problem areas and remedial measures to be taken in case of any disaster.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mehraj-ud-Din Shah, ASP Ganderbal, CPO, ACR, CMO, and other district officers. Representatives of various securities also attended the meeting.
