3 drug peddlers arrested

Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Awantipora and Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials informed Tuesday.

They said a police party recovered 9 Kgs of grinded poppy straw from the possession of one Parminder Singh, son of Sukhdev Singh, resident of Pratap Nagar, Amritsar, Punjab, at Ladermar Awantipora here. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.

In Baramulla, police at Zangam Pattan arrested two drug peddlers — Hilal Ahmad Sofi alias Shera, son of Ghulam Nabi Sofi of Bazar Mohalla Pattan, and Mohammad Saleem Sheikh lais Maas, son of Abdul Rashid Sheikh of Malik Mohalla Pattan after their personal search yielded 10 bottles of Codeine Phosphate and 315 tablets of SpasmoProxyvon Plus. 

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police said.
