4 drug peddlers arrested

Srinagar: Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Ganderbal and Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials informed Sunday.

They said police during patrolling at Dudarhuma arrested a “notorious” drug peddler Shabir Ahmad Shah, son of Ghulam Rasool Shah of Dudarhuma Ganderbal. During the search, psychotropic substance (Codeine Phosphate) was recovered from his possession.

In Baramulla, police arrested a drug peddler Mohammad Aqib Dar, son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar of Khambiyar Palhallan at Hyderbeigh Pattan. During the search, 25 bottles of Codeine Phosphate syrup were recovered from his possession.

At a checkpoint at Khanpora Baramulla, police arrested one Muzamil Majeed Bhat alias Hashim, son of Abdul Majeed Bhat of Mir Sahib Baramulla, and 140 grams of ‘Charas’ (cannabis) was recovered from his possession.

Police also raided the residence of one Rizwan ul Zaman Wani, son of Ali Mohammad Wani of Tarhama Kunzer, and during the search recovered 7 Kgs of poppy straw. Wani has been arrested.

All the arrested drug peddlers have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody.

Regarding the incidents, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
