Five drug peddlers arrested

Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in various instances and recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession, officials informed Monday.

They said a police party arrested two drug peddlers — Mohammad Shafi Hajam, son of Nazir Ahmad Hajam, and Shabir Ahmad Khan, son of Samunder Khan, both residents of Wanigam Kreeri, after 18 Kgs of poppy straw was recovered from their possession.

At Janbazpora Baramulla, police arrested a drug peddler — Zubair Ahmad Shah, son of Ali Mohammad Shah, resident of Janbazpora, and recovered 81 tablets of SpasmoProxyvon from his possession.

In Kulgam, at Tankipora, police arrested one Mohammad Ashraf Malik of Hablishi, and 80 grams of cannabis was recovered from his possession.

In Awantipora, at Panzgam Oudipora Crossing, Muzaffar Ahmad Wagay, son of Ghulam Ahmad Wagay of the same area was arrested after 13.5 Kgs of poppy straw was recovered from his possession.

All the arrested drug peddlers have been shifted to respective police stations and cases under relevant sections of law have been registered and investigation has been taken up, police said.
