5 drug peddlers arrested in Baramulla, Kulgam

Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Baramulla and Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials informed Tuesday.

They said a police party intercepted three persons riding a motorcycle (DL9SB-5432) at a checkpoint in Dangerpora Market and recovered 170 grams of cannabis from their possession. Identified as Shafeeq Ahmad Naikoo, son of Ghulam Rasool; Yasir Ahmad Lone, son of Fayaz Ahmad; and Fayaz Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Jabar, all residents of Dangerpora Sheeri, the trio was arrested and motorcycle seized, police said.

At Nehalpora Cheksari Pattan, police arrested a drug peddler — Bilal Ahmad Shah, son of Ghulam Nabi Shah of Kalsari Pattan – and recovered 70 grams of cannabis powder and five Kgs of poppy straw from his possession.

At Wanpora in Kulgam, one Mohammad Amin Bhat, son of Abdul Rashid Bhat of Check Badwani, was arrested and two Kgs of poppy straw was recovered from his possession, police said.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations in these instances and investigations have been initiated, police said.
