Srinagar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today staged a protest against the killing of a circus worker in Anantnag district of south Kashmir last evening.

Shouting anti-Pakistan and anti-terrorism slogans, scores of BJP activists staged a protest outside the party head office at Jawahar Nagar here this evening demanding justice for the slain circus worker Deepu Kumar.

Demanding exemplary punishment to the accused, the protesters said the successful culmination of the G20 event here has “completely unnerved Pakistan and its proxies in Kashmir”.

Talking to media on the occasion, J&K BJP spokesman, Altaf Thakur while condemning the killing of the circus worker, said those behind the ghastly act be immediately identified and brought to book so that such incidents are not repeated in the future.

Thakur, who led a protest against the killing, warned Pakistan to stop bloodshed of innocents in Kashmir.

Thakur said Pakistan is frustrated by the successful culmination of a G20 event in Kashmir.

Asked if the situation in Kashmir has deteriorated, Thakur said, “If terrorists come in the dark and carry out a cowardly act, it does not mean the situation in Kashmir is bad.”

Thakur also said if the Delhi court awards the death sentence to the JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik, his party will welcome it.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on May 26 approached the Delhi High Court seeking death penalty for Malik, who was awarded life term by a trial court in a “terror funding” case.

“Yasin Malik is a killer and a killer should be given capital punishment. If he is handed the death sentence by the court, BJP will welcome it,” Thakur told reporters here.

He said Malik was involved in several terror-related cases.

“Yasin Malik has got hundreds of Kashmiris killed, and has always conspired against the nation,” he claimed.
