G-20 celebrations: Islamia College holds seminar, interactive session on SDGs

Srinagar: As a part of G-20 celebrations several events and seminars were carried out within and outside Islamia College Campus. 

On Thursday, a daylong seminar and interactive session with the students and faculty was held on “Sustainable Developmental Goals” (SDGs).

A large number of students from the PG Department of Botany, Chemistry, Zoology Hon’s, NEP, PG & IPG participated in the seminar.

The Chief Coordinator of the program Prof. Zahoor Ahmad Jath initiated the session and thanked the Principal & Coordinators of the G-20 events in the College. 

Principal of the College Professor (Dr.) Khursheed Ahmad Khan expressed that the year 2023 shall promote sustainable & socio-economic stability in the country. 

Professor Khan expressed and looked forward that how these aims and issues can be solved by the G-20 summit meeting to be held in New Delhi, India. 

He focused on the safeguarding of natural resources for future generations. 

Chief Guest & Keynote speaker of the seminar Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Shah, Professor of Botany & Director DIQA, University of Kashmir, in his keynote address, focused on how undesirable changes are taking place around the globe. 

In his lucid presentation, he focused on SDGs. Speaking on the occasion he said that peace is the essence of life, he talked about 5-P’s i.e., People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace & Partnership. Dr. Sheikh Javaid, Co-ordinator of the seminar from the P.G. 

Department of Botany deliberated upon the various issues like heat waves, and floods, and their solutions. Dr. Showkat Y. Beigh HOD, Botany expressed how such seminars can offer opportunities to the students to discuss Sustainable Development Goals. 

The students in their presentations expressed how Sustainable Developmental Goals can be achieved. 

The student participation was beautifully channeled in the seminar by Sehar Mushtaq & Shabnum, IPG students of Botany. Speaking on the occasion student speakers, from PG & IPG Shakir Bhatt, Munaza Saleem, Hina Rashid, Rabia Yaseen & Snober Showkat in their presentations expressed their views on sustainable development goals around the globe. 

The seminar was modulated by the organizing secretaries of the seminar Dr. Mehraj Ud Din Bhat, Dr.Khursheed A. Ganiee, Dr. Sabeena, Dr. Gowhar Guna, Dr. Ghulam Hassan Rather & Prof. Burhan Ahad. A healthy question/answer session was held at the end of the seminar.
