3 drug smugglers booked under PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla

Srinagar: Police have booked three “notorious drug smugglers” under PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla, officials informed Sunday.

The “notorious” drug peddlers  — Zubair Ahmad Pandith, son of Mohammad Hayat; Javaid Rasool Mir, son of Ghulam Rasool, both residents of Gantmulla Payeen; and Azad Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Aziz Mir of Dardkote Uri, have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority, and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu, police spokesman said.

He said many cases were registered against these drug smugglers and they were involved in promoting drug abuse by supplying drugs to local youth of Sheeri, Uri and other areas of district Baramulla. 

Meanwhile, a police party also arrested one Asif Ahmad War, son of Ghulam Ahmad of Audoora Qalamabad (Handwara), and recovered 60 grams of cannabis from his possession. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and an investigation has been initiated, the spokesman said.
