Police arrests six drug peddlers, psychotropic substances recovered

Srinagar: Police have arrested six drug peddlers in Baramulla, Budgam and Kulgam and recovered psychotropic substances from their possession, a police spokesman said.

He said that a police party at a checkpoint established at Chinar Crossing Pattan intercepted two suspicious persons who tried to flee but were apprehended tactfully. During checking, 210 SpasmoProxyvon Plus capsules and 7 Syrups of Codeine Phosphate were recovered from their possession.

They have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Sheikh son of Farooq Ahmad Sheikh and Ashiq Ahmad Khanday son of Mohd Ramzan both residents of Bazar Mohalla Pattan, said the spokesman.

During a naka checking at Boniyar Market, police arrested a wanted drug peddler identified as Abdul Qayoom Ganie son of Ghulam Rasool Ganie resident of Trikanjan Boniyar and recovered 45 grams of Brown Sugar like substance from his possession, he said.

He further said that a police team intercepted a vehicle (Swift) bearing registration number JK01T-5282 with two persons on board at Hyderpora Bypass Flyover.

“When police party signalled them to stop, the driver tried to flee from the spot but police party chased and apprehended them tactfully. During checking, 24 bottles of psychotropic substance were recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Saleem Yousuf son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar resident of Syed Hyder Colony Hyderpora Srinagar and Fazil Iqbal son of Mohammad Iqbal Wani resident of Hyderpora,” said the spokesman.

A police party Adpora crossing in Kulgam intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee but was apprehended tactfully, the spokesman said, adding, during search, 11 Codeine Phosphate bottles were recovered from his possession.

He has been identified as Sameer Ahmad Malik alias Gama son of Mohd Sikander Malik resident of Bongam, Kulgam.

The spokesman further said that all the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.
