Para-sports week concludes at Kulgam & Bandipora

Srinagar: Para-sports week activities culminated today at Sports Stadium, Kulgam where concluding events and award distribution function was held in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Dr Bilal Mohi-ud-din Bhat.

The week-long event was organized by District Youth Services & Sports Department from the Ist of May and more than 300 para-sports persons of all age groups from across the district participated in cricket, tug of war, carrom, and chess.

Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, who was present as Chief Guest, along with SSP, Sahil Sarangal participated in carrom, tug of war events on the concluding day.

Speaking on the occasion, DC congratulated the department for organizing the event and facilitating the appreciable participation of para-sports persons.

He also lauded specially-abled para sports persons who showed great temperament and enthusiasm by their participation in the events held since day Ist.

He also held interaction with them and enquired about the issues. They apprised him of some prominent demands like better sports infrastructure and provision of easy accessibility.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner directed for making all efforts in the coming days to resolve their issues.

He instructed the YSS department to put up a comprehensive proposal for funds allocation for the benefit of para-sports in the district.

He also instructed to organize more of these para-sports events at zonal, and district levels.

The event was attended by other civil, police officers along with concerned from the department.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the under-construction Indoor Badminton stadium at Kulgam and took stock of its work, which is at the final stage of execution.

It was intimated that the project cost of the stadium is 90 lacs. The DC directed for immediate takeover and dedication of the facility for the sports lovers of the district.

At Bandipora, the Department of Youth Services and Sports Bandipora today concluded “Para Sports Week” at District Headquarters which was celebrated this past week.

In the week-long activities, specially-abled children were involved in various sports activities. The motive of the activities was to encourage these children to take up any sport for personal and professional development.

During the programme, children were informed about the benefits and career aspects of para-sports as per the Sports Policy of J&K 2022.

Sports activities included Yoga, Carrom, Tug of War, Badminton, Chess, and other recreational activities, etc.

On the Occasion, Nazir Ahmad, Secretary of All J&K Handicapped Welfare Association was the Chief Guest. Sports personalities from across the District were present to encourage the specially-abled students.
