The deceased woman, identified as Nafeesa Bano, locals said was in the kitchen when the incident took place and died on the spot.

Fire, they said engulfed the whole structure causing substantial damage to it, however on-time arrival of the Fire and Emergency Department squad prevented the blaze from spreading further in the congested locality.

“The incident took place around 9.30 am; a woman aged about 55 died in the fateful incident while their three-storey house which was largely made of wood suffered extensive damage. We are thankful to the Fire and Emergency department for prompt action that really prevented the fire from engulfing other structures in the locality,” Tariq Ahmad, a local told ‘Kashmir Images’.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people attended the funeral of the deceased woman.
