Srinagar: Police have booked four “notorious” drug-peddlers under PIT NDPS Act, while two “notorious” thieves have also been booked under PSA for their involvement in many cases, in Baramulla, police spokesman informed Tuesday.

He said four drug-peddlers identified as Habeel Yaseen Dar alias Rouf, son of Mohammad Yaseen of Tarhama Kunzer; Abdul Rehman Malik alias Rehman Military, son of Ghulam Mohammad of Kalantra Payeen Kreeri; Shahnawaz Ahmad Mir alias Boja, son of Matwali Mir, resident of Daragutliyan Uri, and Hafeez Ahmad Khan, son of Mohammad Abass of Rehsiwari Niloosa Baramulla have been booked under PIT NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu.

The two thieves identified as Syed Zaffar Shah alias Zaffar, son of Mohammad Muzaffar Shah, and Fida Hussain Khanday alias Fida, son of Ghulam Mohammad Khanday, both residents of Devar Yakhmanpora Baramulla and were detained under Public Safety Act (PSA) by police after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal Jammu, police said.

Meanwhile, four drug peddlers were arrested in Kulgam and Sopore, and contraband substances recovered from their possession, police said in a separate statement.

In Kulgam, at Kanjikulla Crossing, four arrested Shabir Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Rasool Wani of Wongipora Harmain, Shopian, and recovered four grams of heroin-like substance from his possession.

At another checkpoint at Matibugh, one Mohammad Iqbal Shah, son of Mohammad Amin Shah of Munnad was arrested after four grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession as well.

At Yaroo, 130 grams of cannabis powder were recovered from the possession of Mohammad Shafi Sheikh, son of Ali Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Yaroo.

In Dangerpora Sopore one kg and 222 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from the possession of one Showkat Ahmad Sofi, son of Abdul Satar of Rajbagh Dangerpora.

Police said all the accused persons were arrested and shifted to their respective police stations where they remain in custody. Cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations initiated.
