Altaf Bukhari expresses concern over surge in drug addiction in J&K

JAMMU: Expressing serious concern over the growing menace of drug addiction, the Apni Party President Syed Mohammed Altaf Bukhari has sought strict action to curb drug smuggling in Jammu and Kashmir that has given rise to social evils and criminal activities.

As per a press release, Altaf Bukhari was addressing a meeting in which over 200 youth from different parts of the Jammu region were present here at the Apni Party Office, Gandhi Nagar. In this meeting, dozens of youth joined the Party.

Welcoming the new entrants into the party fold, he appreciated the youth wing for their hard work in making people aware of the policy and developmental agenda of the Apni Party.

“It was the result of Apni Party leaders and workers of all the wings that the people from every segment have come forward endorsing the faith in the party’s policy,” Bukhari said.

“Jammu and Kashmir is facing a tough situation because of drug addiction and smuggling. The police, civil administration, and general public have the responsibility to fight equally against the menace which has posed a threat to the future generation,” he said.

While highlighting the importance of awareness among the people in urban as well as rural populations, he directed the youth wing to work in this direction to save the life of the youth who become drug addicts and make the young generation aware of drug addiction.

“Apni Party youth wing shall come forward to play its important role,” he said. 

On this occasion, the Apni Party President donated Rs 5 lakhs for awareness /drive against drug addiction in Jammu amid growing concerns of the society against the social evils in Jammu and Kashmir.

He expressed his serious concern against the surge of drug addiction as it has given rise to multiple criminal activities.

Meanwhile, he also referred to the demands of daily wagers in Jammu and Kashmir and appealed to the Govt to formulate a policy for their regularization and release of pending wages.

Expressing his anguish over the unfair selection process which sparked widespread protests in both Jammu and Srinagar cities, he said that the Govt must ensure transparency in the recruitment process to restore the confidence of the aspirants of different jobs.
