Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference women’s wing has expressed deep concern over the steep increase in the prices of essentials.

Party’s State Women’s Wing President Shameema Firdous addressing a meeting of the women’s wing at the party headquarters Nawa-e-Subha, said, “Prices of grains, edible oils, and other edibles are skyrocketing. Mounting power and drinking water tariffs have overburdened them further. People are getting no respite from anywhere. The government as usual is apathetic to their plight. Lower and middle classes are particularly at the receiving end of it.”

During the breadth of the meeting, the participants also had a threadbare discussion over rising graphs of social issues including the growing drug menace and resultant crimes.

While expressing concern over the growing social evils, Provincial President Women’s Wing Er. Sabiya Qadri said, “I feel saddened to see young boys and girls falling prey to the drug menace. It’s a matter of grave concern, and every responsible citizen must come forward to help out these victims.”

Expressing serious concern over the slipping of youth into the dark alleys of drug menace, Er. Sabiya said, “ Rise in the Incidents of crime are a chilling reminder of the vulnerability we as a society are confronted with in wake of the rising graph of drug addiction/substance abuse. Theft, burglary, and murders of this beastly nature are interrelated with the wanton drug menace plaguing our youth. The government will do what it can, but we as a society have to come forward and take up initiatives to curb this burgeoning menace.”
